RBI's Sachet Portal

Online lending has made borrowing faster and more convenient - but it's also opened the door to a growing number of fraudulent apps and unlicensed lenders. Many borrowers only discover a platform was never authorized after money has already changed hands, or after aggressive recovery calls begin. The RBI's Sachet portal was built to close that gap: a single window where anyone can check a lender's legitimacy and report financial fraud, without needing to know which regulator to approach.

What   Is   the   Sachet   Portal?

Sachet (sachet.rbi.org.in) is a joint initiative of the RBI, state-level regulators, SEBI, and IRDAI. It exists to give consumers one place to:

  • Report unregistered lending apps and NBFCs

Flag chit funds, deposit schemes, and investment frauds

Report harassment by loan recovery agents

Verify whether a financial entity is actually licensed to operate

Instead of guessing whether a complaint belongs with RBI, local police, or a state registrar, Sachet routes it to the right authority automatically.

How   to   Check   If   a   Lender   Is   Genuine

Before borrowing from any app or NBFC, use Sachet's "Search Entities" tool:

  1. Visit sachet.rbi.org.in
  2. Click "Search Entities"
  3. Enter the lender's name
  4. Confirm it appears in the official registered list

Warning  signs  of  an  unregistered  or  fraudulent  lender:

  • No verifiable office address or customer support

Loan disbursal promised with no or minimal documentation

Upfront "processing fees" demanded before any loan approval

App permissions requesting access to contacts, gallery, or call logs

Absence from the Sachet entity search

How   to   File   a   Complaint   on   Sachet

  1. Go to sachet.rbi.org.in
  2. Click "File a Complaint"
  3. Select your state
  4. Choose the entity type (loan app, NBFC, bank, chit fund, unknown/suspicious)
  5. Add details: entity name, contact info, amount involved, and a description of the incident
  6. Attach evidence — screenshots, call recordings, chat logs, payment receipts
  7. Submit and save the reference number to track status

What   Happens   Next

Sachet forwards your complaint to the relevant authority  RBI, state police, cyber cell, SEBI, or IRDAI  based on the nature of the fraud. It doesn't resolve the case directly; it ensures the complaint reaches the right desk without delay. Recovery of funds isn't guaranteed, but reporting helps regulators track repeat offenders and shut down illegal operations faster.

Why   This   Matters   for   Borrowers

At Banxx, we only work with registered, RBI-recognized lending partners you can see the full list on our Our Lenders & Partners page before you apply. The broader lending ecosystem includes many apps that aren't registered. A 30-second check on Sachet before you share any personal or financial information including when applying for a personal loan can save you from a scam that's much harder to undo.
